the Last Defenders' Corn Roast - 2009

After 25 years, and over 100 corn roasts for various groups, Alice & Bill are hanging up their aprons. 2009 was the final Defenders' corn roast at Pioneer Tree Farm.

Many thanks to Alice and Bill, to Vern at Stade Farms for donating the corn, to all our outstanding cooks, and to everyone who helped with set-up and clean-up.

The Invite: Annual Corn Roast & Potluck Supper

Our annual corn roast & potluck supper will be held on August 16^th,2009 at Alice & Bill Howenstine’s Pioneer Tree Farm. All welcome at 4:00 p.m. Food will be ready at approximately 5:30 p.m.

What to bring: Please bring a main dish, salad or dessert to share and enjoy a day of fun for the whole family and your fellow Defenders members! Bring serving utensils and your own non-disposable plates, cups and utensils. Please label your wares so that you can be sure to get them back at the end of the day. Roasted corn, lemonade, iced tea and hot coffee will be provided. If you want something else to drink, bring it along. Picnic tables are available, but you might want your own blanket or chairs as well.

Activities: There will be lots of fun activities, including informal nature walks, volleyball, horseshoes, frisbee, tetherball, chicken feeding, just sitting around talking, and a hayride!
