Defenders' Corn Roast 2008

On an absolutely
perfect Sunday in August of 2008, the Defenders once again gathered
for another world renowned Corn Roast and Potluck Supper at
Bill and Alice Howenstine’s Pioneer Tree Farm. Not too hot, not too
rainy, not too buggy - a perfect day to be entertained by hammered
dulcimer, guitar, and mandolin music.

A perfect day to see how a drill worked, back in the "olden days"
(cordless, even - go figure!).
A perfect day for Board of
Directors' President Bill Donato to speak about the direction the
Defenders will be taking, and about
our name change to “Environmental Defenders of
McHenry County”.

A perfect day for
playing games, including stuffing badminton birds with grass and
then seeing how they tasted. (Honest guys - the corn is much
better!). The Potluck dinner and roasted corn was fabulous as
always, and a hay ride through the tree fields and forests was a
perfect ending to the afternoon.
Many thanks to Alice and Bill, to
Vern at Stade Farms
for donating the corn, to all our outstanding cooks, and to everyone
who helped with set-up and clean-up.
