Earth Share of Illinois gives you the opportunity to give to the McHenry County Defenders through your workplace employee-giving campaign. In the past, the United Way was the only fund available to receive employee donations through payroll deduction. Now many businesses give their employees the choice to donate to a variety of non-profit groups. Earth Share of Illinois is one of those choices.

Earth Share of Illinois represents leading environmental and conservation organizations working locally, nationally and internationally to address environmental challenges in our community and around the world. The McHenry County Defenders have been actively involved with the Earth Share of Illinois (formerly known as the Environmental Fund of Illinois) since its inception. Earth Share of Illinois’ member organizations work to protect Illinois’ rivers, streams, prairies, wetlands, forests and wildlife as well of the quality of our air and drinking water. The organizations achieve these goals through research, advocacy and public education. They monitor developments that affect our environment and bring them to the attention of decision makers as well as the public.

Earth Share is designed to make it easy for you to make a difference in our efforts to preserve the environment. At companies where Earth Share is part of the campaign, you can give to the fund as a whole or direct your donation to the Defenders. The Defenders receive funding as a member organization as well as specific donor directed funds. Earth Share is part of state and federal employees campaigns as well as campaigns at some private companies. The Defenders receive donations from members who work for Sears and the post office through this method. If Earth Share of Illinois is not part of your company’s campaign yet, you can still give to the Defenders by writing the group in as your donor’s choice.

Earth Share of Illinois also would like to be part of more employee giving campaigns.  Many people find that payroll deduction is an easy and effective way to make contributions. We hope more individuals and businesses will support Earth Share.
