For several years, communities and townships have chosen to spray adulticide in an attempt to eliminate mosquitoes. However, many people don't realize that most of the mosquitoes frequenting their yards were also bred in their yard or their neighbors'.  Here are suggestions for eliminating mosquito-breeding sites around your house and neighborhood.

Communities that have held off spraying for the last 20-30 years are adulticiding again due to the threat of the West Nile Virus ...and a lack of public education.

If you have yard waste you want to dispose of, first call your village or township office for possible drop-off locations.

If no local drop-off is available, the following commercial sites will accept certain yard wastes:

They accept leaves, grass and tree trimmings (pieces must be less than 6 ft. long and 6 inches in diameter).
Cost is 2.5 cents per lb. and a minimum cost of $10.00. They also sell compost.
